Doors Open Toronto (Pics)

31 May

I had the chance to run around the city on Saturday exploring some famous and lesser known buildings for Doors Open Toronto. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to a lot of what I wanted to see – who knew that it took so long to get from one end of downtown to the other?

I thought I would post some pics from this year’s DOTO.

A lot of them didn’t turn out well due to the lack of tripod. On one hand I wish I brought one since I would’ve gotten some wicked pics, but on the other, my back would probably be hurting as much as my feet are if I had. Worth it? Who knows.

Here’s where I went:

-The stables at Casa Loma

-The Toll House

-Wychwood Barns

– Toronto’s first post office

– Mackenzie House

Please be this awesome all the time?

No need for $5,000 gowns and DJs imported from Europe. Just a small group of friends and a sense of humour…..and an open bar.

Stuff Romi Likes: Summer Edition

25 May

Haven’t done a “Romi Likes” in a while.

Now that summer is here, my “want” list is piling up (and my have list is pretty static).

DISCLAIMER: I don’t technically actually know anything about fashion, but I love it nonetheless. As much as I love the snobbery of Lookbook, leave it on that site. I just want to go shopping, damnit.

Here are my sartorial desires / recommendations:

1. One shoulder dress – So cute, so summery. Perhaps in a colourful print would be ideal, probably the only thing (apart from the willingness to spend money) keeping me from buying this. The one below is from lulus.com

2. Elastic Sandals Continue reading

Maclibs

20 May

What do you get when you combine news with madlibs? An explosion of awesomeness, that’s what! The nerds at Maclife have created a madlib news piece on Apple’s latest lawsuit. Here’s the lib, and my version.

The latest in a series of lawsuits was filed against Apple today, this time by The Stag Shop.

The company, best known for producing the insanely Smelly Parrot, filed claim today, alleging that Apple infringed on  Eleventy Seven of their patents relating to their Slippery Stephen Harper’s user interface, Nuclear Weapons, and underlying architecture. In conjuncture with their lawsuit, the company has also filed a complaint with The Catholic Church, asking that they put an immediate stop to Apple’s export of Ovaries to Yemen.

Apple has announced that they have let go of their entire legal department, replacing them with Lindsay Lohan.

Lindsay Lohan’s first action on behalf of Apple, was to file a countersuit against The Stag Shop, claiming that they had infringed on 666 of their patents for Monkey, Burrito and elements of their Canada interface.

Speaking on behalf of Apple, Lindsay Lohan stated that “Apple cannot simply sit by while Hairy Manatees tarnish our name and conjugate our stimulus packages.”

A-thank you.

p.s. post your Maclibs below!

Things To Look Forward To

18 May

When I was working for Virgin, I had a weekly post called “things to look forward to” where I outlined the cool events happening that week, ones that cost little to no money. I did it because we were in the heat of the recession, and I figured, if people were feeling down about their money situation, perhaps a frugal outing would cheer them up.

It seems, however, like there’s more to look forward to than the week ahead. A university study says the older you get, the happier you’ll be. The happiest people are over 50 years old. I guess getting to that mark is achievement enough. Am I right? Continue reading
