Greetings From Jerusalem

30 Jun

I'm not naked, I swear...

I made it! But I’m exhausted so I’m going to keep this short and sweet. It’s been good so far, but hard to get adjusted to the time difference (7 hours ahead of Toronto).

Some quick observations:

I’ve never seen so many people of different religions practicing in one place that means so much to all of them.

You can feel (and see) the tension between Palestinians and Israelis.

There’s so much history here. It’s so refreshing. Such a change from Canada’s historical sites. The average one here is around 2000 years old.

All of the forests in Israel are man-made. it’s pretty amazing considering there are quite a few trees. This proves that man can be good for some things. And I had a part in it today–I planted a tree!

I am SO happy I was not in Toronto for the G20. I saw pics of what happened there. Disgusting, but predictable.

That’s all you’re getting for now!

More My City Lives Vids!

28 Jun

After a break from making videos, I have bombarded the My City Lives website with three new vids!

This one I filmed at Tabule on Yonge street, drinking some delicious mint tea.

I poured a pint at the Frog and Firkin, and filmed it, and I watched Ken Yates perform at Tranzac which you can check out here!

If you haven’t seen my other MCL vids…where have you been? Just kidding – LINK.

To Israel And Beyond…

25 Jun

Tomorrow I will be on my way to the other side of the world.

I’m going to Israel for the next two weeks, and Greece for one week. It’s a hot spot world tour!

Though I’m going for recreational reasons, I will try my best to include my social commentary / some pics / general observations while I’m traveling. Don’t expect daily blogs, or even every other day because I’m not sure how much internet access I will have, but I look forward to sharing my experiences with you.

I know you’ll miss me dearly. If this is the case, I suggest you do the following:

1) Catch up on some archived posts.

2) Check out my blogroll!

3) Draft some wicked guest posts so that when I come back, my mailbox (romisez@gmail.com) will be full of content to publish.

Hugs and kisses.

See y’all soon.

Cynical Life Lessons

22 Jun

“The purpose of life is a life of purpose.”

*yawn*

Cheesy quotes like the former are riddled throughout my Facebook status page posted by friends of friends who truly believe that if you wish upon a star, your dreams will come true.

Stuff No One Told Me tells me that those who obsess over Disney quotables are similar to those who watch too much porn:

This is the kind of stuff we should be teaching our kids. Continue reading

The Unfavourable Vampires

18 Jun

I originally wrote this for one of my classes with the intent of pitching it to some magazines, but I have decided against it since the topic has been shot out of the limelight.

I did decide, however, to resurrect it and republish it on my blog because I was just reading an article in the Star about dogs that are sniffing out G20 delegates’ hotel rooms for bed bugs. If the city of Toronto is trying to avoid housing delegates in a bed-bug infested hotel room, perhaps they should take that persistence and apply it to the residents of this city who have been spending thousands of dollars out of their own pockets to rid themselves, often unsuccessfully, of infestations.

Alright, here’s the piece I wrote:

I vant to suck your blood
