Freshly Pressed

28 Sep

You have no idea how much of a shock it was to see the page views on ROMISAYS skyrocket first thing yesterday morning. It took me a while to figure out that I was “Freshly Pressed” on WP’s homepage.

I wanted to thank WordPress, even though I’m not sure how FP posts are chosen, for putting me there. It’s nice to be able to write and get my message across, but it’s nicer to get an extra push to spread my words to more people than I would usually have access too.

I also would like to thank those who read and commented on the post. I learnt great deal from your input and opinions, and every single person who commented stayed respectful to me, each other, and the subject matter. After reading too many a comment section on a news article, I was beginning to doubt good comments even existed.

I hope those who gravitated to my blog via Freshly Pressed will continue reading. I promise awesome content and good discussion.

Beyond humbled,

Romi

Holier Than Thou: The Israel Dilemma (+pics)

14 Sep

I had the opportunity to tour Israel this summer (as mentioned a million times before this). I thought I would expand a little bit on my observations and conclusions after getting a first hand look at what really goes on in a place that is so misconstrued by, well, everyone. Continue reading

Beyond A Matter Of Pride

Queers Against Israeli Apartheid has been banned from participating in the parade unless they undergo a name change because, according to parade authorities and the provincial government, “Israeli Apartheid” is a term that is hateful and offensive.

Has the line been drawn too soon? Continue reading

In MY Humble Opinion

16 Apr

Here’s the story behind the poll from the last post:

I was on Perez Hilton (I’m not even going to try and defend myself here.), and I noticed there was a post regarding the criticisms faced by Dancing With The Stars contestant and journalist Erin Andrews. Who was featured as the main critic? The Toronto Star‘s very own Rosie DiManno.

If you read The Star you’ll know how DiManno writes. The woman once wrote a piece about kicking someone in the balls at a McDonalds. Needless to say, she has very strong opinions, most of which I do not agree with. The fact that she holds these opinions doesn’t bother me (to an extent), because every single person is entitled to their opinions. She isn’t being a bigot, she’s just really, really enjoys complaining. It’s part of her shtick.  Continue reading

What do you think?

Binary Problem

11 Feb

You’re either with us or against us.

Friend or foe.

Good or bad.

Pro or anti.

Is there no middle ground? Why do people feel inclined to pick a side. So many political values, morals, opinions and beliefs are based on dichotomies and binaries where they can’t seem to take the valid points from each side to create a fine balance. Continue reading
